Your world is as big as you make it.
Georgia Douglas Johnson
Hey, I am Valerie.
I am a college teacher who aids working parents who have decided to enroll in college to earn a degree. I know you have different needs than the 18 – 23-year-old, straight-out-of-high-school college students.
You will not read any “Do not party the night before an exam” posts from me. I am more likely to suggest that you do some reading while you are in the car circle picking up your child after school.
I have taught traditional and online classes for over 20 years; I have also been a student in online and traditional classes. I have two graduate degrees, both of which are in education. One of them was from a traditional campus and the second was from an online program. This gives me a lot of experience so I can help you to make more sense out of college and your assignments.
I cannot solve all the problems, but I can help you understand why some things happen. Then again, if you experience something that does not make sense to me either, then at least you do not need to think that you are the problem. OK?
I am also fairly good at writing, and I hope to be able to help many of you make sense of the APA format. Once I have a better idea of what kinds of issues my students have with this, and I know you have issues, I will develop some products that I think can help you. You will have to let me know what you need, however.
If there are other issues you would like to understand, let me know those as well.
When I am not in the classroom, or responding to messages from my readers, I can be found reading, taking long walks with my dog, or riding my bike. I found I need outdoor exercise to balance out the time I spend inside in front of the computer. I suspect many of you can relate.
I tend to like Wordle and Quordle and other logic kinds of puzzles.
I like playing fetch with my dog until she decides she has had enough!
People tell me I should tell you something quirky about myself. The problem with that is that I do not see those things as quirky, so I do not know what to tell you!!!
If you identify any quirky habits of mine, please let me know!
I think I have always been a teacher. If you had asked my brother, he probably would have told you I had been trying to teach him something all our lives. Since I was “big sister”, I guess he really did not appreciate that!
I have always wanted my students to be successful. I want to help YOU be successful. Try me out. Stay with me for a while. See if you like my approach to school and life. If you do not, you can forget this site exists. If you like what I have to say, I can probably be very, very helpful. Feel free to let me know what you would like to know/read. I will not try to help if I am not familiar with the topic.
If you think you would like to work with me and have me around while you work on your degree, please sign up for my free assignment checklist and get on my mailing list.
I will publish Prof’s Monday Meditations (Quotes and comments on them) and Prof’s Thursday Thoughts each week and respond to whatever seems to be an issue.
Fair enough?
I hope to “see” you in my inbox!!
Valerie
I thought I would add three comments from prior students, just to let you know I really can be helpful! 😊
You are an amazing instructor. You are very good at what you do, and you teach the material [to] your students well. Thanks for the laughs. Amanda
Thanks again for the wonderful reintroduction to the beginning of college. It’s odd; I have had many teachers in my life, which I have met in person but the one that has changed my view of college is the one teacher I have never really met. Thanks again. Marcos
I want to say again THANK YOU to you for opening my eyes to what I am capable of. Even though words cannot express the impact you have had on my life; if only you could see the actions that were instilled within me because of you and your directions. I was so stressed and unorganized before this course, and I can honestly say you helped me make a 360 and realize that I can be more than just an average student/worker. Larry
